This fairtelecoms website blog will be one way in which myself and Dave put out current comments about what is happening in relation to the campaign.
I will be appearing on BBC Radio 4 "Money Box" on Saturday (12 May, at 12:04) to talk about how HMRC could simply and easily stop charging callers to its call centres by switching from its 0845 numbers to the equivalent 0345 numbers (to run in parallel for a period). This simple measure would, to quote the Minister, “result in significant cost savings for the majority of callers” (see my personal blogging). Not only would they cease to pay HMRC a subsidy which amounts to around 18p per call on average, but they would also avoid the inflated "access charges" levied by many telephone companies on calls which they cannot include in packages. This is a classic example of what "fair telecoms" is about. Please follow this story and join the campaign. |
