Premium rate HR lines
The Fair Telecoms Campaign is concerned to note that a number of well-known businesses and organisations have implemented premium rate telephone lines for employee contact with their respective HR departments.
Usage of premium rate numbers starting 084 forces callers to pay up to 62p per minute and using 087 numbers forces callers to pay up to 68p per minute when contacting their employer, perhaps to sort out problems with unpaid wages, book time-off or report sickness and other such issues.
The Fair Telecoms Campaign condemns usage of premium rate numbers for activities such as these as a rip-off and calls for an end to this inappropriate usage of revenue generating numbers.
In their advice for people looking for work, Action Fraud UK warns to never call premium rate numbers starting 070, 084, 087 or 09 when applying for jobs. The Fair Telecoms Campaign believes that employees should also not have to ring these types of numbers.
